I'm not sure what you want Steve. However, this is something you might 
find interesting: http://docs.python.org/ext/intro.html It shows how you 
can call C stuff from python, therefore you could use your qstat source 
and make a python wrapper around it and use this functionality in 
python. I'm not sure if this is what you want ....
